Frequently Asked Questions

1. What kind of counselors do you have?
We have pastoral and clinical counselors on staff. Our clinical counselors are licensed by the state of Arizona and primarily work with those dealing with mental health issues like depression, anxiety, addiction, and trauma (as well as many other issues). Our pastoral counselors are ordained clergy who have graduate training in pastoral counseling and are certified by one or more national credentialing bodies. They primarily provide marriage and couples counseling and also work with individuals and families dealing with grief, existential crisis, relationship problems, and  various common but difficult life issues (such as the process of coming out).

All of our counselors provide care that is uniquely equipped to assist the healing of the whole person — spirit, soul, and body.  We seek to help people regardless of their faith background or beliefs. We understand that many people — especially in the LGBTQ+ community — have trauma around spirituality or religion. Our approach is entirely client-centered and your personal beliefs will always be respected, nurtured, and affirmed.

2. I'm not LGBTQ+, can you still help me?
Our counselors have extensive experience working with clients from various backgrounds. We specialize in working with the LGBTQ+ community but also work with people in various walks of life and beliefs who are looking for emotional, relational, and spiritual support.

3. Can you prescribe medicine?
None of our counselors are medical physicians and cannot prescribe medicine. Any medical or psychiatric symptoms should be addressed by a qualified psychiatric specialist. Clients will be referred to outside sources when treatment required is beyond the scope of care available here.

4. I've never done counseling like this before. What can I expect?

Our goal is to make you feel at ease and comfortable enough to talk about what's on your heart and mind. In the first session, we'll finalize paperwork, then have you share your story. If you're dealing with difficult emotions, you will be encouraged to talk them out and so we can discover where they are coming from. If you are a spiritual person, we may talk about how those emotions connect with your personal beliefs. We might talk about your own connection to the Divine and what that means for your life. We may recommend homework, as well as a book recommendation or two to help you in your introspection and personal work beyond our sessions together.
