Frequently Asked Questions
These are some answers to common questions we receive on a regular basis. If you ever have any additional questions, call us directly at (480) 525-7284 ext. 0 — we try to return every call.
1. What issues do you provide counseling for?
We provide counseling for adults, teens, families, and couples. Our counselors each specialize in different areas, helping those struggling with depression, anxiety, stress, self-esteem, grief, anger, codependency, relationship issues, sexuality, spirituality, communication, parenting, as well as premarital and marital issues. Some of our providers also provide coaching services for those looking for personal training, health coaching, career coaching, or life coaching.
2. How Can Counseling Help?
Your counselor will work with you to establish your personal goals for counseling and then tailor the process personally to you. Your counselor will listen closely to understand your experience, then find ways to assist you in moving towards your goals. How counseling works differs from person to person, because it is a personalized experience. It might involve gaining a new perspective, exploring things about yourself, implementing spiritual disciplines, changing unhealthy patterns of thinking and behaving, processing difficult experiences, and learning healthy ways of coping.
3. What Kind Of Counseling do You Provide?
We offer pastoral counseling, which integrates the insights of spirituality with counseling skill and theory. Our counselors are either: ordained clergy who have graduate training in pastoral care and are certified by a national organization in pastoral counseling, or state-licensed psychotherapists with additional training in psycho-spiritual integration.
Pastoral counseling and spiritually-integrated psychotherapy are unique forms of counseling because practitioners are uniquely equipped to assist the healing of the whole person — spirit, soul, and body. If requested by the client, our counselors may suggest prayer, study of scripture, spiritual disciplines, books, and other resources to facilitate growth inside and outside counseling sessions. Our pastoral counselors are also adeptly trained to work with individuals who identify as neither spiritual nor religious, ensuring that their approach is inclusive and respectful of all belief systems.

4. Can you prescribe medicine?
At this time, we do not have a prescribing provider on staff. Any medical or psychiatric symptoms should be addressed by a qualified psychiatric specialist. Clients will be referred to outside sources when treatment required is beyond the scope of care available here.
5. What if I am not SPIRITUAL OR RELIGIOUS?
We help people regardless of their faith background or beliefs. While we specialize in the integration of counseling and spirituality, we help people from all walks of life by creating a safe and welcoming environment for all of our clients. We want to emphasize that we do not push our beliefs on anyone. Our counselors are trained and equipped to work with individuals of all belief systems, including those who are non-religious. We understand that your beliefs, whether religious or not, are an important part of who you are, and we respect that.

6. I've never been to counseling before — what's it like?
If you've never been to counseling, or if you've been numerous times before, our goal is to make you feel at ease and comfortable enough to talk about whatever is on your mind. In the first session, we'll finalize paperwork, then have you share your story. If you're dealing with difficult emotions, you will be encouraged to talk them out and so we can discover where they are coming from. Your counselor will not force anything out of you, however, and they will move at your preferred pace when talking things over. We typically assign homework, as well as a book recommendation or two to help you in your personal development beyond our sessions together.

10. ARE MY RECORDS EVER SHARED WITH INSURANCE COMPANIES?
We adhere strictly to the highest standards of confidentiality (HIPAA). We are under no obligation to share your records with any third party, unless you explicitly request us to do so. In fact, this is another reason that many clients paying privately choose to work with us, knowing that their care here is fully private and will not be used by third parties to affect future coverage. If you do decide to seek reimbursement from your insurance or want to use your HSA card, we are required to share your records.
