What is Pastoral Counseling?
At Prism Counseling & Coaching, we provide pastoral counseling, which is a unique form of counseling that integrates a client's faith and spirituality into their care. Rooted in both religious traditions and the principles of modern therapy, pastoral counselors provide support to individuals seeking to address life challenges while also exploring and deepening their spiritual beliefs. These counselors are often pastors and clergy who have received specialized training in mental health and therapeutic techniques, ensuring they can address emotional and relational issues within the context of a person's faith.
Pastoral counselors are also adeptly trained to work with individuals who identify as neither spiritual nor religious, ensuring that their approach is inclusive and respectful of all belief systems. They possess the skills to navigate conversations on well-being and personal growth without imposing beliefs or doctrines.
Our pastoral counselors are ordained, commissioned, endorsed, or pastorally licensed by their respective denomination, and have training in pastoral counseling, spiritual direction, and/or clinical pastoral education. Our pastoral counselors are not state-licensed behavioral health clinicians but are pastoral care specialists that provide emotional, spiritual, and relational support within the scope of their expertise as clergy.
