Narcissistic Abuse & Recovery

⚠️ NOTE: We do not recommend couples counseling for cases dealing with narcissism, since this is an abuse problem, not a relationship problem. We don't work with perpetrators, but can help individual survivors of narcissistic abuse develop clarity, healing, safety, and recovery.

Being in a relationship with a narcissist can leave you feeling drained, confused, and powerless. Narcissistic abuse is not always obvious at first—it often shows up through subtle manipulation, emotional control, and patterns that make you question your own reality. Over time, this dynamic can create fear, self-doubt, and even a sense of losing yourself.
You may feel:
  • Afraid of setting off an angry reaction
  • Unsure of what’s real because of gaslighting
  • Guilty for wanting boundaries or considering leaving
  • Responsible for the other person’s emotions or healing
  • Spiritually conflicted about what it means to love well while protecting yourself
These experiences are not your fault. Narcissistic abuse is a pattern of manipulation rooted in fear and control, and it often traps people in unhealthy cycles.

How Counseling Can Help

Gaslighting is a form of narcissistic abuse, control, and manipulation where someone convinces their victim that they can't trust themselves.
At Prism Counseling & Coaching, we walk with survivors of narcissistic abuse toward healing, clarity, and empowerment. While you cannot change a narcissist, you can:
  • Learn to recognize manipulation and abuse for what it is
  • Set and maintain healthy boundaries without guilt
  • Rebuild your confidence and sense of identity
  • Work through spiritual confusion about forgiveness, compassion, and responsibility
  • Develop a plan to protect your emotional and relational health
Our approach integrates sound counseling practices with a compassionate, faith-based perspective. We understand the spiritual struggles that often come with narcissistic abuse, and we help you separate genuine Christian love from toxic patterns of enabling.
A podcast from Tres Adames (one of our pastoral counselors), on recovery from narcissistic abuse.
